Albuquerque poet and artist Scott Wiggerman is the author of four books, including Beginning and Ending with Emily: Ghazals and Golden Shovels, a collection inspired by Dickinson’s work; and Leaf and Beak: Sonnets. Wiggerman is co-editor of Dos Gatos Press, which has produced numerous books of Southwestern poetry. He also edited Wingbeat: Exercises & Practice in Poetry, a craft book that won the 2020 NM/AZ Book Award.

The Ghazal—Writing its Rhymes, Rhythms, & Refrains  Tracing its origins to 7th-century Arabic poetry, the ghazal has been embraced by many modern poets, including Marilyn Hacker & Robert Bly  Discover an ancient tradition that employs impulse over rationality and revels in imaginative leaps  In this workshop, we will explore the ghazal’s unique dance, then write couplets (known as sher)  as we build the framework for a full poem  Join us to release the ghazal within you!
